History
1950 – Present
Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church was founded in the spring of 1950 by Rev. Elijah Miles. The Lord blessed the small congregation to grow to a point, where in 1951 they purchased the property at 70 Clark Street. The existing structure was used from September 1951 as a church. While working together, they raised monies and used donated materials to build the original sanctuary in 1956.
The Lord blessed the congregation to outgrow that structure so an addition was added in 1970 to accommodate their membership. The new addition included space for recreation, kitchen, dining room, and office space as well as a baptismal pool.
The Lord called Rev. Miles home in January of 1985 and Rev. Emanuel Johnson began his pastorate in December of 1985. Under his leadership and guidance the congregation increased so that a larger sanctuary was needed. In the spring of 2005 the congregation moved to our present worship space.
Rev. Johnson retired in 2010 due to health reasons and Rev. Sherman Dunmore was elected Pastor. He served in that capacity from October 2010 until January 2014. After his leaving in January Rev. Donald Golden was asked to serve as Pastor and was officially installed March 2015 as Senior Pastor.
